The Likely Victims of Identity Theft

Posted on May 3, 2008

While all people are at the risk at some point in time to being a victim of identity theft, some are naturally more at risk due to the way they handle their financial and personal transactions. The factors that would affect a person’s vulnerability to this crime include the use of one’s personal computer for online banking transactions, online purchases and payment for services such as tickets for travel; discarding of credit card offers without shredding them; storing of personal information in one’s computer; and using the social security number for identification.

These daily activities expose people to an unwanted risk. Come to think of it, even the simple act of using a cell phone pose a risk due to the possibility of interception of valuable information. As a general rule, the more available personal data is and the more leniently it is handled, the greater the risk to ending up as a victim.
